Long-Time User Disappointed by Bugs and Poor Support

I've been a Mailchimp user since 2013, but recent issues with this plugin have made me reconsider. A persistent bug has been causing me to lose subscribers (they turn non-subscribed automagically), which is incredibly frustrating. When I found that someone else had already reported the issue, I added helpful information to the thread. Initially, support thanked me—only for a moderator to later delete my comment and send me a message saying, "If you need support then per the forum guidelines please start your own topic."

This felt unnecessarily rude and unhelpful. I couldn’t even find the specific guidelines they referenced, and encouraging users to create duplicate threads seems counterproductive.

Combined with other technical quirks and an overall decline in user experience, I’ve decided to switch to Omnisend. Their support is excellent, and their pricing is much more competitive.

Thanks for the earlier years, Mailchimp—but the recent experience has been disappointing.

God help you if it doesn't work out of the box or you have a technical question. Support has become awful, compared to when I first signed up

unstable and bad support

Unfortunately it has disconnected several times and than resend to all customers again the emails.

Test emails doesn't work

So, to test out the automations, you will have to build your own testing field - test audience, test automations etc, because the built in test does not work and that has been confirmed by the support.

Fundamental Flaws

If an already subscribed user goes to checkout and does not check the opt-in checkbox, they are unsubscribed despite this not being an unsubscribe event. Developers claim this is working as designed which is nonsense. They suggested pre-checking the opt-in checkbox as the best workaround but this is illegal in the UK. Rubbish!
BUG: If you are trying to capture cart contents for abandoned carts, these updates for flood in, sometimes after the checkout process has completed. This can cause the subscribed status to be set back to transactional after the customer has completed a checkout and successfully subscribed. What you see in the logs is "cart.member.updated :: Updated xxxx@gmail.com subscriber status to subscribedand language to en"

then later

"abandoned_cart.success :: email: xxxx@gmail.com :: checkout_url: xxxxxx 2025-03-26T09:13:48+00:00 NOTICE order.member.updated :: Updated xxxx@gmail.com subscriber status to transactionaland language to en"

Doesn't do what it says it would

Without any error messages or other alerts it simply does not move buyers as non-subscribers into our MC account; it doesn't display an opt-in at checkout; it doesn't tell us if anything isn't working with the connection... yet it clearly isn't; and it's permanently asking us to complete the integration as per the "Marketing" tab, yet the main Mailchimp dashboard says "You’re on your way!"... whatever that means. Fun. NOT!

Several attempts to log in / register - no email from them, no offer to create a password but they still ask me for a password. Recovery doesn't work either. Waste of time.

It's OK but can slow things down

We've found this plugin variable. It's great to have audience behavior synchronized. But with many thousands of customer and orders synching that data to the Mailchimp servers can be sluggish and create an overhead during checkout. The abandoned cart functionality this offers is promising. However we've also found that the inability to differentiate between a "bailed" vs a "failed" order is problematic. Sending a chirpy marketing email as part of an abandoned cart sequence when the customer experienced a problem is irksome to the customer. It would also help to synchronize a customer's location from our store to Mailchimp because some items cannot be shipped to certain countries. This meant that the abandoned cart functionality became a blunt instrument for us rather than an eloquent marketing tool. Mailchimp is great. This plugin could be a lot better as a marketing tool.

It's easy to use and it works, also the support is great!

This plugin is easy to use and it works really well. Also, the support is great: I had an issue with promo codes syncronization and the support solved my issue in just a few days :-)

So, it's really great!
