0.1/5 — The Worst GDPR Plugin, But No Real Alternative
By Bajireg on August 1, 2025
Complianz is by far the worst plugin I've ever paid for. The only reason I’m still using it is because alternatives like Cookiebot are outrageously expensive (charging per urls). Broken Setup and Interface
The configuration wizard and builder are a mess. It often loads incorrect data, freezes randomly, and settings don’t always save. The wizard causes more frustration than help. Terrible Documentation and Support
I’ve read over 15 articles — almost all of them were outdated or useless. Even with a paid license, support responds after 48 hours with generic excuses and no real solutions. Technical Issues Everywhere
- The plugin randomly stops working
- Statistics are broken and cannot be reset
- No way to reset user consent
- A/B testing is confusing and unstable
- Changes don’t save reliably — sometimes you need to re-enter settings 3+ times
Final Verdict: Complianz avoids using the native WordPress environment in favor of a clunky custom interface that just doesn't work. If you value your time and sanity, avoid it. Sadly, unless a better alternative appears, we’re stuck with it.
If you know of a more reliable GDPR plugin, please let me know — anything’s better than this.
Easy, intuitive, and quick to use

It's a highly recommended plugin for implementing data protection laws
Doesn't work on install, needs lots of time to get it to work
By vrdpe on July 31, 2025
Thought I might try this a viable alternative to CookieYes. But I installed this and got no cookie banner. Despite trying several browsers where I was not logged in to the site. And going through the 'wizard' three times.
Digging into the support on here it transpires this happens a lot. And to get things to working takes lots of time and plugin conflict tests etc. Which I really don't have time for.
Additionally Complianz sets a multitude of cookies of its own.
Another thread here states it leaves traces in the database too. The plugin author replied "Regarding the issue with database cleanup: Complianz includes an option to remove all plugin data on uninstall, so nothing remains in your database or WordPress environment. You can enable this in: Tools > Data > Clear all data from Complianz on uninstall." Not intuitive to find.
In fact WordPRess itself should start banning this practice of plugins leaving traces in your database. Unless one specifies not to.
And now they have my email address, which will no doubt be added to a mailing list to spam me from...

Long wizard, but simple and effective

It was a little difficult to get through the steps in the wizard, but with help from Google and ChatGPT was able to answer all the questions. And now? Now I have a fully functional cookie policy and I feel secure and confident that my website visitors are welcomed at a professional website!

I've tried several different GDPR plugins, I even looked at developing my own, but Complianz proved to be the solution I needed. Simple to install and deploy.
