Why break so many things?
By Torsten Landsiedel (zodiac1978) on February 13, 2025
I don't understand how an update can break so many things at the same time.
After the update to v5 the log email and from is missing. All jobs are broken. Functionality is missing. The "Backup Now" button is not working at all - the page just reloads, no visual clue what is breaking. The content selector is missing functionality and is bad UX.
In the list table are three icons with three dots vertically and although the mouse change to link there are no links and it doesn't happen anything. Just showing some numbers as tooltip - looks like the time and the filename, but why?
The UI is so bad. No text variants for icons. Firefox is showing so many accessibility errors. I don't think this is usable for anyone with assistive technology like Voice Over at all.
It looks rushed into public without proper QA/UX testing (and translating).
WP media - you can do better!
The new design is terrible. It is impossible to work.

very bad after update

The new interface is very bad, the possibilities are limited. I deleted the plugin and switched to another backup plugin.
V5 now bad interface
By Torsten Händler (shogathu) on February 13, 2025
Sorry guys, but the new version 5 is really terrible. You have to do more steps to find your jobs and the UI doesn't look as good. I know you want to step forward, but not in this way. You can change the UI, but don't make it too complicated to find settings, jobs, or anything else.
I switched back to version 4.1.7 for our client. Version 5 is not worth it.
Disappointing Update – BackWPup’s New UI Ruins Usability
By ericasm on February 13, 2025
I've been using BackWPup for a long time, and until now, it has been a dependable and user-friendly backup tool. Unfortunately, the latest update is a huge letdown.
The new interface feels like a major downgrade. The previous version was well-structured, intuitive, and made it easy to access job settings and configurations. Now, everything seems unnecessarily complex and harder to navigate.
Why change something that was already working so well? This redesign has made managing backup jobs frustrating and inefficient. Please revert to the previous UI and restore the clear, organized layout that made the plugin so effective.
It's disappointing to see such a great backup plugin take this turn. I would never pay for the PRO version of this update—but I would gladly pay to get the old version back.
For now, I’ll have to explore alternatives or hope that an upcoming update resolves these issues.
Awful now with v5!
By Heather (ukheather) on February 12, 2025
I loved the plugin as it was. Did the job.
Do NOT upgrade to v5 if you haven't already!
Now it made it slow and super buggy and it doesn't even work for me. I cannot back up at all, no matter how long I fiddle with settings that don't even save and I have read through troubleshooting and nothing works. I even tried adding a line to wp-config a per troubleshooting, but that doesn't work.
It just does NOT backup.
The first backup NEVER works! Tried for 2 hours now and have reinstalled etc. Tried on a 2nd blog and same issue. Truly awful now. What a shame.
Plus you can't disable automatic backup. I don't want it to automatically backup, but no choice.
But the fact it made it worse and doesn't even work well now, I am having to uninstall and do it another way.
Revert it back to how it was. Least it worked!
Don't fix what isn't broken
By patmonette on February 12, 2025
I'm bewildered by this new "update". A complete regression from previous versions of what used to be my go-to backup plugin. The UI is an absolute eyesore (why do plugins insist on inserting their own custom fonts on their configuration pages?) and all previous custom configuration capabilities have essentially been disabled and greyed out.
I can only assume the plugin was acquired by another company, thus requiring them to push their "Premium" version to squeeze more dollars out of it, fine – but the problem is that even the Premium version doesn't offer the level of functionality that used to be available for free.
Until they address these concerns and bring back functionality that was offered in previous versions, don't waste your time with this plugin.
Missing transition between old and new
By Orsp on February 12, 2025
I have used your plugin for many years, appreciating the ability to schedule backups.
But this new version, I honestly don't understand it… 😳
It doesn't feel like the same plugin to me.
It seems to me that you have not made a proper transition between the old but working one and the new one which is too different…
Good luck and thanks anyway for your plugin. 👋
BackWPup – Disappointing Update, a Step Backwards
By mediendesignwerk on February 12, 2025
I've been using BackWPup for a long time, and until now, it has been a reliable and user-friendly backup solution. However, the latest update is a major disappointment.
The new UI is a significant step backward. The previous interface was clear, structured, and easy to navigate, allowing quick access to job settings and configurations. Now, everything feels unnecessarily complicated and less intuitive.
Why change something that worked perfectly? The new design makes managing backup jobs more frustrating and inefficient. Please bring back the old UI and restore the clear, well-organized view for jobs and configurations.
For now, I’ll have to look for alternatives or hope that a future update fixes these issues.
v5: Terrible "update"
By Peter Hardy-vanDoorn (petervandoorn) on February 12, 2025
I have to say that I really don't think this new version is an improvement. In fact, it's decidedly a step backwards, from the dreadful UI to the removal of relied-upon features.
Bring back multiple jobs. Bring back customised schedules. Bring back the ability to download the database with just 1 click. In fact, just bring back v4!
